Every year, SABAT hosts quadriplegics from QASA for the Annual Power Wheelchair race around 1km of the Kyalami circuit.
The event is the only one of its kind in the world. Quadriplegics using power wheelchairs line up at the start line and race to the finish line to see who is crowned “The fastest Quad”. The event is open to both men and women, who all use SABAT batteries to power their appropriately prepared wheelchairs.
SABAT have had an ongoing relationship with QASA, sponsoring all members who use power wheelchairs with a pair of batteries per annum to keep them moving and mobile.
“This project enables quadriplegics the opportunity to remain mobile through the use of SABAT batteries and thus save hundreds of Rands. The race event gives those of us who use power wheelchairs an opportunity to re-discover the joy of competitiveness and feel the adrenalin, often lost through disability” says Ari Seirlis, National Director of QASA.
Kyalami spectators will cheer the participants on, while top speeds of 16km/ph will are achieved by the front runners. Power Wheelchairs cost between R20 000 and R100 000 and these essential mobility aids allow quadriplegics the freedom and independent movement they deserve.
QASA encourages quadriplegics and paraplegics to participate in sport and hobby activities and the SABAT POWER WHEELCHAIR RACE is a perfect platform for the users of power wheelchairs to demonstrate their toggle driving skills and enjoy the thrill of some wind in the hair competition.

The 1970’s movie “The Cannonball Run” starring Burt Reynolds, cames vividly to life every year as Lamborghinis, VW Beatles, Ferraris and many other vehicles line up at the start of the Annual Round Table Cannonball Run Africa .
This three day and three night charity event, organised and managed by the volunteer members of Round Table, starts with a drivers briefing and decaling of the Cannonballer’s vehicles. This gives an opportunity for the drivers and clue technicians to meet old friends and make new ones.
The Round Table had a number of challenges in keeping this charity event within the spirit and excitement of the original concept, while abiding by the rules and regulations of the road.
QASA is a beneficiary of this 3 day “sports car rally” event that empowers communities of persons with disabilities through which the event travels. If you are interested in participating in this event, please contact us.

The event will be staged two ways this year starting from Carnival City in Johannesburg on Thursday the 29th September and ending at Cane Cutters in Ballito on Sunday 2nd October.
The return ride leaves Ballito on Thursday 6th October and arrives at Carnival City on the 9th October. The guys from Family Adventures would like to see every rider experience the ride at least once in their lives…
The QuadPara Association of South Africa is proud to be a partner and beneficiary of this wonderful event. The off-road biking fraternity will Stand Tall in order to support the dreams and goals of quadriplegics and paraplegics in South Africa through QASA.
The funds that are raised through this event will go a long way towards assisting QASA in delivering necessary projects that will help quadriplegics and paraplegics, integrate into society and live meaningful lives. The association depends on events like QUADS 4 QUADS, in order to have the resources to make a difference in the lives of its members.
QUADS 4 QUADS is their ride and not a race, it is an event that will change your life, it is an event that will allow you to explore South Africa with a different view, it is an event which will challenge your stamina, and revive your soul. At the end of the four days of riding, you will experience, friendship and fun never felt before and most importantly, you will have been responsible for empowering and developing capacity for quadriplegics and paraplegics.
A wonderful way for you to make a difference is to enter the event, and in your community, raise funds for QASA, or get a team together, brand yourselves, dig deep, have fun and make a contribution over and above the corporate sponsorships.
QASA can issue a section 18 A Tax Exemption Certificate, to allow tax deductions on all reasonable donations.
QASA hosts an annual art exhibition for the mouth painters of the Association.
The Art exhibition runs back-to-back with the annual general meeting. QASA promotes mouth painting amongst the members, and many of the successful mouth painters are now four members of the foot and mouth painters Association.
