When Vijay Ramadu and husband Nandha recently visited the General Justice Gizenga Mpanza Regional Hospital for their COVID vaccinations, Vijay immediately noted the sad state of the two wheelchairs, one of which was used by Nandha, and set about securing a new one for the vaccination department.
After many e-mails and calls (working with guidance from Pam Hill of Hillstream Beverages), a wheelchair was promised by Raven Benny, COO of the QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA). A brand-new wheelchair and three huge bags of knitted baby clothes, blankets and masks were handed over to Pumla Mba, the grateful public relations officer of the hospital (formerly Stanger Government Hospital).
Vijay and sister-in-law Sue Ramadu have a strong community spirit and are the driving force behind the Palm Lakes Love for Humanity Group – a group that works with many kind and generous residents to better the lives of those less fortunate.
They have inspired many residents to knit, sew and collect plastic bottle tops and bread tags (tops and tags) for the ongoing wheelchair project to aid mobility, working closely with resident Pam Hill on this worthy cause and taking to various digital platforms to ensure the campaign maintains momentum.
The Love for Humanity Group was formed at the beginning of the COVID pandemic when it was discovered that many institutions were in desperate need of masks and infant clothing. The group quickly got to work to provide what was in short supply. The group has grown to a core of 30 people and donors came forward to provide materials and cash to purchase wool and fabric.
Many charitable organisations continue to be supported and benefit from the kindness of these generous residents.
Vijay thanks the residents of Palm Lakes Estate, the members of Love for Humanity and QASA for putting their weight and great effort behind the Love for Humanity projects including this charitable cause that will directly benefit the patients of the General Justice Gizenga Mpanza Regional Hospital.
